ChatGPT: Friend or Foe?
This is a personal project that I worked on to help decide whether or not ChatGPT could help or hinder the copywriting world. In the piece, I talk about how writers can utilize the program to help create a framework for a variety of topics. However, it is up to the writer to fill in the holes that the program cannot fill.
With the emergence of different AI programs such as ChatGPT, many people are worried about the future of certain job positions. Many people are worried that the copywriting position will be a lost position due to these AI programs. However, I am here to say that it is not all doom and gloom when it comes to the world of copywriting. Instead of admitting defeat to these programs, I think it’s worth noting how these programs can help copywriters. I decided to experiment with the AI program. I gave it the prompt to explain the online sneaker marketplace, and this is what it came up with:
An online sneaker marketplace is a platform where individuals and businesses can buy and sell sneakers. These marketplaces provide a centralized location for buyers and sellers to connect and transact business.
Generally, online sneaker marketplaces work in a similar fashion to other e-commerce platforms. Sellers list their sneakers for sale, and buyers can browse listings, compare prices, and make purchases. The marketplace typically provides a payment processing system to facilitate transactions, and may also offer shipping and tracking services.
One of the key advantages of an online sneaker marketplace is the ability to access a wide range of sneakers from all over the world. This means that buyers can find rare or limited-edition sneakers that may not be available locally. Additionally, online marketplaces often have a larger selection of sizes and styles than traditional brick-and-mortar stores.
However, there are also some potential risks associated with online sneaker marketplaces. For example, it can be difficult to authenticate the authenticity of a sneaker when purchasing online, and there is always the possibility of receiving counterfeit goods. To mitigate these risks, many marketplaces have implemented policies and procedures for verifying the authenticity of sneakers and may offer buyer protection programs.
Now for someone who may not know anything about sneakers in general and how the marketplace works, this would seem like a fine explanation of how it works in a general sense. However, this explanation lacks any specific details about examples of sneaker marketplaces (StockX, Grailed, GOAT). It also does not go into details about how certain marketplaces the prices are not fixed and can change in a matter of minutes, working in a way like a stock market. It also fails to mention that in many cases people can message the seller directly to discuss a price that both the buyer and seller agree on. This explanation is very vague and lacks further details. I came to the conclusion that ChatGPT can be used to help build out stories, but it lacks the finer details. Below I used the same prompt to explain the sneaker marketplace by using some of my own knowledge and using what ChatGPT provided as well.
An online sneaker marketplace is a platform where individuals and businesses can buy and sell sneakers. These marketplaces provide a centralized location for buyers and sellers to connect and transact business. Some common sneaker marketplaces are StockX, GOAT, Grailed, Stadium Goods, and much more. These marketplaces all work in different ways but ultimately all serve the same purpose of selling sneakers on an online platform.
Generally, online sneaker marketplaces work in a similar fashion to other e-commerce platforms. Sellers list their sneakers for sale, and buyers can browse listings, compare prices, and make purchases. The marketplace typically provides a payment processing system to facilitate transactions and may also offer shipping and tracking services. Some of these marketplaces serve as almost a pseudo stock market as prices of the shoes change by the minute based on demand very similar to that of the stock market. This makes the sneaker retail market something that people can track based on what is popular within the industry.
One of the key advantages of an online sneaker marketplace is the ability to access a wide range of sneakers from all over the world. This means that buyers can find rare or limited-edition sneakers that may not be available locally. For reference, there are around 125,000 shoes available on StockX with hundreds of brands to choose from. Many of your local shoe stores simply do not have the inventory to compete with an online sneaker marketplace.
Often, buyers can contact the seller directly to ask questions about the product to ensure the authenticity of the shoe itself. Grailed offers a chance to message the seller directly to discuss a price or just general questions about the product. This makes buyers feel more at ease knowing they are talking to an actual person.
As you can see, the difference between ChatGPT and my explanation is that mine goes into more detail, whereas ChatGPT lays the foundation. ChatGPT can be a nice tool to help frame what topic a person is writing about, but it’s up to the writer to fill in those holes and complete the story to make it more compelling and believable. When it comes to using sites for transaction purposes, people want to feel a sense of trust. The way to build that trust is by giving as many details as you can about the process. Being vague in the writing will deter people from using a particular site.
